Dayak tribe is a native of Kalimantan island. Kalimantan Island is an area that is still in the territory of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. There are 5 tribes or 7 tribes native to Kalimantan namely Malay, Dayak, Banjar, Kutai, Paser, Berau and Tidung. According to the census of the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Indonesia in 2010, the ethnic groups found in Kalimantan Indonesia are grouped into three groups, namely the Banjar tribe, the Indonesian Dayak tribe (268 tribes) and other Kalimantan origin tribes (non-Dayak and non-Banjar).

In the past, the culture of the Dayak community was maritime or maritime culture. Almost all the names of the Dayak people have meaning as something related to the “concern” or river, especially in the names of families and family names.

Some divide the Dayaks into six groups namely the Klemantan alias Kalimantan, the Iban family, the Apokayan family, the Dayak Kayan, Kenyah and Bahau family, the Murut family, the Ot Danum-Ngaju family and the Punan family. But scientifically, the linguists saw 5 language groups spoken on the island of Borneo and each had relatives outside the island of Borneo.
