The Origin of the Ng clan or in Mandarin called the Huang clan [黃氏] is one of the largest Chinese clans in the world. According to the number of population in mainland China, Marga NG (Huang) ranks 8th. Meanwhile, Ng clan (Huang) is the 3rd largest clan in Taiwan. In the book hundreds of Chinese Surnames (Bai Jia Xing), NG clan (Huang) ranks 96th.
In its designation, Marga Huang [黃氏] is also called NG Clanin the Hokkien and Teochew dialects, while the Cantonese dialect calls it “Wong”. The origins of the NG clan or the Huang clan can be traced to several main origins, including the Yin clan and the Jin Tian clan.
The Ng (Huang) clan is descended from Bo Yi [伯益], who was instrumental in helping Yu [禹] cope with floods and repairing irrigation systems during the reign of Emperor Shun [舜]. Emperor Shun then bestowed the Yin [嬴] Clan on Bo Yi [伯益]. Bo Yi’s descendants consisted of 14 clans, namely Ji Xu [既 徐氏], Tan [郯 氏], Ju [莒 氏], Zhong Li [終 黎 氏], Yun Yan [運 奄 氏], Tu Qiu [菟 裘 氏], Jiang Liang [將 梁氏], Huang [黃氏], Jiang [江氏], Xiu Yu [修 魚 氏], Bai Ming [白 冥 氏], Fei Lian [蜚廉 氏], Qin [秦氏], Zhao [趙氏].
Among these clans, the Huang Clan (Ng clan) founded the Huang State at the beginning of the formation of the Zhou Dynasty. Location Huang Country [黄 国] is located in Henan [河南], Huang Chuan [潢川] region. In 648 BC, the Huang State was conquered by the stronger Chu [楚国] State so that the nobles and descendants of King Huang used the country’s name as their Clan, namely the Huang Clan (Ng clan).
Tai Dai [台 骀] is a descendant of Shao Hao [少昊] surnamed Jin Tian (Shao Hao was one of the Emperors in Ancient China (circa 2600 BC)). Tai Dai is a person who contributed in overcoming the problem of flooding in mainland China. Due to his successful efforts to overcome the flood, Tai Dai was then awarded a territory, namely the Fen Chuan [汾 川] region by Emperor Zhuan Xu [颛 顼].
Emperor Zhuan Xu was one of the Emperor Wu Di [五帝] in Ancient China (Yuan Gu). Tai Dai’s descendants later founded several countries such as Huang State [黄], Ru [蓐] Country, Si [姒] Country, Chen Country [沈]. These countries were eventually conquered by the State of Jin [晋国] at the time of Chun Qiu [春秋]. The aristocrats and descendants of the Kings of the Huang Country later replaced their Margins with the Huang Clan (Marga Ng).
