A large study conducted by scientists at Stanford University in the United States found that Indonesia is the laziest country to walk around in the world. This study reveals that the average Indonesian only walks 3,513 steps every day.

A professor of biotechnology and one of the researchers, Scott Delp said, this study uses a large scale because it also uses health surveys and data from 717,000 people in 111 countries and the activities of people in a sustainable manner.

“In comparison, Hong Kong is the most active country, with its citizens walking an average of 6,880 steps per day, compared to an average of 3,513 in Indonesia,” he said, as quoted by Standard, Saturday (15/7/2017).

The study, published in the journal Nature, also found that Indonesia has a higher rate of obesity.

The study also focused on the walking habits of people in 69 American cities, finding that urban planning affects health. “As a pedestrian-friendly city like New York, people tend to get a lot of physical activity,” Delp said.

Here’s the most active countries in the world based on the number of steps per day in this study version:

– Hong Kong 6,880

– China 6,189

– Ukraine 6,107

– Japan 6,010
